Being completely honest, I have to admit, I lost some momentum over the summer, did you? Summer can be a very frustrating time of year for entrepreneurs. I know I get frustrated and a little anxious because things tend to slow down a lot for me and I’ve heard the same from many fellow entrepreneurs.
People are on vacation, kids are out of school and schedules are all over the place. Yes it’s a great time of year to have fun, but not the best time to try and keep a business going.
I don’t know how it caught me off guard and there are thing I’d like to do differently to prepare for next summer so it doesn’t happen again, but since the summer is over and it’s time to jump back in, let’s look at how to maximize the next few months so we can end the year on a high!
As John Maxwell says in his Book How Successful People Win he writes “people these days are looking for a magic bullet, an easy answer, a single thing that will catapult them to fortune or fame but success generally doesn’t work that way. Success comes from simple incremental progress. Small difference over time create big differences”.
I’m so glad I read this because it reminded me that to get back on track and make the best of what’s left this year, all we really have to do is take steps in the right direction, make forward progress and we can create the big differences.
Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare? I have to remind myself of this all the time. I run really fast, try to do too many things and then run out of steam. I have to remember that slow and steady wins the race!
So, below are a few things I’m doing to get back on track and wanted to share them with you too. I hope you find them helpful.
- Get Back to the Basics: What do I mean by this is? Now is the time to remember what the one thing is that you do really well and capitalize on it. You only have a few months before the holidays start, and they start earlier and earlier every year, so it’s time to hit the ground running. It’s time to generate as much income as you can. Share your expertise with as many people as possible. Now is NOT the time to try out something new, it’s time to generate as much revenue as you can doing what you do best.
- Decide Who You Love to Work With: This is a great time to focus on working with more of the people you really want to work with. You’ll be more excited to get out there and find those people one you remind yourself who they are. And in addition to knowing WHO you want to work with remember you are looking for those who also “need” you the most, will “pay” you the most and who “value” you the most. There are a lot of people who probably need you but you are running a business not a charity so you want those who need you and who are willing and able to pay. Identify these people, put yourself in front of them and you will have the best chance at making the most money for your business while being super happy and fulfilled.
- Where and How Can You Make The Most Money: What I mean by this is, what tends to be the “easiest” way for you to make money? Is it coaching, training, consulting, selling products or services? Whatever makes you the most money, that’s where you will want to concentrate most of your efforts. There are so many things available to us as entrepreneurs, things that look easier, more fun or even a faster track to success. It can be hard not to get caught up in all of that but the more we divide our efforts, the less success we will have.
Basically….. we can’t do it all without getting overwhelmed! If you are like me there are so many things you want to do. You may want to write a book, develop an online program, start a networking group, host a tv or radio show and many other things that are exciting. And although these are great goals, to grow a sustainable business, it’s important to focus on the one or two things you do best, make money with that and then add one thing at a time until you’ve reach your dreams and goals.
The very thing that makes us great as entrepreneurs, is our ability to do so many things. But that can also be our greatest downfall. So as we approach the final quarter here’s to….. getting super focused and rockin’ our businesses!
P.S. If you have found this information helpful, or if you can add something to help us all make the last quarter of the year even more amazing, PLEASE do share in the comments below. I’d love to hear from you and I’m sure others who read this blog would too!
